About the Job Position

The Department of Health and Welfare is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Social Worker I. This position allows candidates to specialize in one (or more) of three distinct assignments based on their professional passion and expertise. Whether you are focused on building community infrastructure, or providing 24/7 support for the unhoused, this role offers a structured career path with guaranteed growth opportunities upon the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is an entry level position solely for the Homeless Shelter Staff and Librarian positions. For CPS / Community Development applicants, navigate to the Social Worker II vacancy.


Applicants are expected to:

  • Sacred Hearts Shelter:
    • Manage cases and conduct intakes specific to their chosen assignment.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for citizens, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Work collaboratively with partner agencies (LSPD, PHMC, SADCR) as required by their assignment.
    • Conduct field visits, investigations, and follow-ups to ensure the well-being of all citizens.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of community events and outreach programs.
  • Librarian (CDT):
    • Approach the position with a professional attitude.
    • Find opportunities to expand the use of the library.
    • Maintain standards of stock and conduct within the library.
    • Answer questions from guests and assist them in the location of appropriate study materials.

 

About the Department

The Department of Health and Welfare is the safety net for the City of Los Santos. Our mission is to empower the vulnerable and ensure equitable access to social services. Moving forward, the department is structured into three specialized assignments:

  • Youth Welfare Bureau - CPS Agent Assignment:
    • Focuses on child protection, adoption verification, abuse investigations, and educational support.
  • Community Development Assignment:
    • Focuses on affordable housing applications, Veterans Affairs, elderly care, and networking with local business owners.
  • Homeless Outreach Assignment:
    • Focuses on the 24/7 operation of city shelters, rebuilding trust with the unhoused, and assisting with SADCR reintegration.

About the Salary & Paygroup

  • The current Social Worker I wage is set at: $50,000 + bonuses.
  • Social Worker I's are assigned to Paygrade III.
  • Note: Homeless Outreach & Librarian assignments begin at $50,000 (Paygrade III) with accelerated progression to Paygrade V ($60,000) upon constant improvement and advancement.
  • Comprehensive benefits and a clear path to Social Supervisor (Paygrade VIII/IX) for qualified staff.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant must be at least 21 years of age.
  • The applicant must have a legal address in the State of San Andreas.
  • The applicant may not have been convicted of any felonies and/or misdemeanors.
  • The applicant must possess a current driver’s license and a reasonable driving record.

Desired Qualifications and Experience (by assignment)

  • Homeless Shelter Staff:
    • Experience in crisis intervention, Criminology, or addiction services (no degree required)
    • Willingness to work shift-based 24/7 schedules.
  • Librarian (CDT):
    • There are no black and white set desires here for past qualifications and experience. The only desire we have is that you are passionate about academia and books. Any candidate that is passionate about the aforementioned, is more than welcome to send in their application for consideration.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Sacred Hearts Shelter:
    • A high level of literacy is required together with the ability to frame correspondence in a user-friendly but legally correct style and to prepare file notes for presentation to department leadership.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills together with the ability to prioritize and manage significant workload under pressure without supervision.
    • The ability to maintain a calm and professional approach when faced with very challenging and sometimes high-profile clients is essential.
    • The applicant must deal with issues and solve problems, which will be possible through in-depth knowledge of procedures and relevant laws.
    • Strong social awareness of local issues as well as knowledge of the local communities in the districts of Los Santos is advantageous.
  • Librarian (CDT):
    • Strong interpersonal / social skills.
    • Passion for academia and learning.
    • A desire to succeed and the ability to thrive with a freshly created project. Including a driven passion to innovate and take the project to the next level.
    • A knowledge and passion for books and book reading is desired.
